I spent the bulk of my career as an academic physician at the University of Michigan --- clinical work, teaching, administration and scholarship. I tried to integrate faith into all that I did. It seemed to be a more natural integration in the clinical role. In 2014, I left my outpatient practice at the University of Michigan to start Emmaus Health as an "experiment" in Catholic healthcare. Clinicians are not trained in how to practice Catholic healthcare and patients are not sure what to expect. Eight years hence, we are still working on the model.
